Projects: Steephill Road

In addition to the species surveys required to inform most developments beyond domestic residential alterations, this project at Steephill Road needed assistance in considering the proximity of the homes proposed to the neighbouring downland SSSI and Local Nature Reserve as well as to a connecting footpath.

We were able to design a landscape solution that provided the necessary screening and setting for the public right of way but which at the same time created a new connecting habitat and foraging route for wildlife between the LNR and the existing urban edge. The mix of foodplants, pollen and nectar and seed and fruit species was selected to favour invertebrates and so make local wildlife encounter more likely for new residents and for those using the footpath, another opportunity to introduce ‘Nature Nearby’.

The planning application was successful.
